The Crêperie Cauquigny
is all about history…
The Crêperie Cauquigny is named after a magnificent place located just 3km from Sainte-Mère-Église, where an American soldier by the name of Charles N. DeGlopper died a hero during the Second World War. When facing enemy lines, Charles N. DeGlopper would divert attention and enemy fire using only himself as distraction, allowing his fellow allies to spearhead the German forces and gain a favorable position. Charles N. DeGlopper was posthumously awarded the highest medal possible by the United States Congress: the Medal of Honor.
It is with this theme in mind that the Crêperie Cauquigny welcomes you to Sainte-Mère-Église in the village of Musée Airborne. It is here where a Soldier by the name of John Steele, on the night of June 6th, 1944, laid hanging by his parachute which was caught on the church for over 12 hours. Eventually being caught and made prisoner by the Germans and executed three hours after.
This remains a region where the past seems all too close and it is for this reason that the Crêperie Cauquigny has not forgotten yet embraced its history. Believing that history is somewhat still alive, the Crêperie Cauquigny has created a wall where you may sign your name or write a personal message to the veterans of WWII and their family members.
